Ben with George Russell

INSTRUCTION

Ben Schwendener has been editing and teaching George Russell's "Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization" since the 1980s. On the faculty at the New England Conservatory as well as the Longy School of Music, he currently teaches the famed LC concept at both schools.

Schwendener is likewise a faculty member at U-MASS Boston, where he teaches a course in the Creative and Critical Thinking Department that uses his own imaginative and innovative curriculum - designed for non-musicians - based on principals related to the LC Concept.

He also directs the Creative Music Ensemble and teaches courses in Composition and Electronic Music Production at the Rivers School, in Weston, Massachusetts.

Ben's personal committment to music education is perhaps best realized in his leadership of the non-profit, Gravity Arts, Inc., an organization which he co-founded. For an engaging look at some of Schwendener's teaching techniques, see this Boston Globe article.
